I Heart Being Black

To be honest, I was just laying in the bed right now trying to take a nap, and then it came to me....I started my blog on the 1st(I think) and today is the last day of the month....black history month....i havent said anything about it all month! WTF?! Maaaan whats goin on??? Haha I don't know, I guess my mind has been in other places(as usual) But um, I mean 2009 man, a black man is the prez. I know he's been in some shit lately, with dealing with our economy. Its a tough thing to deal with but at least he's crackin at it. God bless the brotha. I posted a picture of Malcolm and Martin because they're like my superheros. Like I have my heros, but as far as being black, they along with some others(Cornell West, Langston Hughes, Denzel Washington, Kanye West haha)they're my dudes! And I feel like they represent the struggle and the advancement of black people. I love being black, African American, a brotha, dark skinned, big butt haha, and a low fade. Recently, i've been trying to figure out what tribe in Africa I'm from but the real research starts with some money which i aint got to be doin all that haha. I think I could be from Kenya or Nigeria haha. If I am, I will rep that sooo hard. Shit, wherever I'm from, I'll rep that. I love my people, I love everybody. Black History Month! So, our state is in economic turmoil and this mafucka Schwarzenegger wants to relapse. How irresponsible and silly is this? We got ppl losing jobs left and right out here, we're bout legalize trees just to bring some revenue in here and what is this guy doin? Fucking playing actor again with another washed up action star(i aint sayin hero). I swear if we dont get this dude out of office, I dont know what I'll do. Shit, I might move(keyword:might) We're struggling while the powers that be are shooting movies and shit. some BULLSHIT

Lykke Li is like kinda poppin right now in the States and I know of some chicks who love her, so I figured I throw this up for you guys....girls haha. She likes Tribe so thats dope, I was actually listening to them like an hour ago. I always said I would never marry a girl if she didnt like A Tribe Called Quest(seriouslly =]) Shout to Ezra for this one.

Hero Day pt. 2

HMMM This is not the music pick of the week because Grizzly Bear is =] haha. BUT, I just saw this video and I had to post it. Why? Because, Its LUPE FIASCOOOO, thats why. One of my favorite rappers of all time and someone I look up to. I enjoyed watching this and hearing what he had to say and I hope you will like too.

Music Pick of the Week: GRIZZLY BEAR

When Ezra was telling me about the bands he was listening to alot a couple of months before the end of last year, One band's name stayed in the back of my mind: Grizzly Bear. "Grizzly Bear? hahaha man you on some other shit" was what I said to him when he mentioned them. When I first listened to them, I thought they were ok, too slow for me. Now, a funny thing is, I was reading an article about them and I think it was the lead singer who said he'd rather someone not like them at first and then on a depressing day have that person listen to their album and then actually really like it as opposed to someone liking it immediately and then later can't standing the thing(something like that). That's exactly what happened to me. I actually sat down one day and listened to their album Yellow House and I loved it. Their approach to music and how the play it is unorthodox but its dope. Here's the song Two Weeks from their EP called Friend. This is my shit. haha.

Run It Back

I watched every minute of the Oscars. The Whole shit. Even when they gave out the awards for the less cared about categories like sound mixing and short animated film, and the wack performance of the two songs from Slumdog Millionaire. Overall, I was happy. I knew Slumdog was bout to smash tonight. Every time they won an award, I kept saying to myself and out loud "this shit better be good".

I literally jumped out of my seat when Sean Penn and Penelope Cruz won. I was like "Yeaaaahhh niggaaaa" haha. Very happy for those two. And I think the original screenplay went to the right place, even though In Bruges looks really good.
Hugh Jackman was a good host. I wouldnt mind if he did it again next year, although it was just weird to see him that position.

I guess the only things I didnt like about it was when Bill Maher presented Best Documentary. Was it me or was my dude like butt hurt about his documentary not being nominated? It was kind of annoying. Also, I wanted to slap the shit out of Alan Arkin for being up there presenting Best Supporting Actor because his old ass knows he shouldnt have won over Djimon Hudson in Blood Diamond. No Way Fam.

But yeah this was good. I'm happy. Had a brotha thinkin about his own future in the film business. My dad was like why are we watching this, and I thought to myself...."inspiration"? haha

p.s. Why wasnt Kate Winslet nominated for Revolutionary Road??? She was the shit in that movie. She had April Wheeler on point! The Reader Looks hella boring haha

Hey Mr. Oscar...Where Have You Been?

The 81st annual Oscar Awards are on in a little less than 2 hours and I'm a little stressed. I'm looking at the nominees right now(when i'm not typing) and the best actor, best actress, and best supporters are tiiiiight. Its up for grabs I think, espescailly supporting actress. I wont be mad at anyone who wins that award, I think the 5 ladies that are nominated did good(except Marisa Tomei cause I havent seen the Wrestler)I want Penelope Cruz to win haha.

Now aaaall the talk is about Slumdog Millionaire. When Flaco and Dex told me about it, I was hatin, and I still kinda am haha. When it won best screenplay and best picture, I was like ok maybe I want to see this, but I dont know man haha. I like studying movies the got good writing so.... Personally, I want either Milk or The Curious Case to win.

I like the Oscars because alot of the time they give the awards out to people that deserve it(minus some fuck ups in the past years) But I feel like this is more serious than any other awards in the arts so I mess with the Oscars. But whatever happens, I aint gonna be mad, I'ma enjoy it haha.

p.s. If Heath wins......I dunno. haha. He did an awesome job. But I'm goin for Phil Hoffman!
