Cookie Monster Blog: The 9th Edition

Before I head out to the gym with Steve, I wanted to post this interview with 9th Wonder. IIII Love this dude(no homo) Everytime someone asks me who my most influential producers where I always mention Danger Mouse, Dilla, and 9th. Ask anyone. Shit, Steve and Jerry and Dave used to call me 9th cause my beats sounded alot like his(not tryna copy tho). I learned how to count bars by listening to his beats, construct bass lines, sample certain things just from listening to him. People may call him an asshole or whatever, but I dont give a shit, this nigga is soo tight to me.

p.s. The Francis Young LP slated to drop late April =] i think. haha

Justice

Aight, I just hoped off one of the best blogs(besides my own) Nah Right, and I watched a video of my boy Kid Cudi at his South By South West performance. IT'S OFFICIAL! HE'S NOT RETIRING. I wasnt bout to post the video cause I'm pretty sure two other people besides me who read the blog would be the only ones who care, but fuck it, i'ma do it for them. *cough cough* Rose and Justin. Peep it...

Buggin Out 2009

Don't You hate really weak covers of really good songs? Like wooow they really covered this??? haha well I think The Cons and The Cudder did a good job on this cover of Buggin Out by A Tribe Called Quest. Tribe is may fav hip hop of all time, and I feel this is good.

sidenote, Consequence is Q-Tip's cousin hahaha. He kinda was an unofficial member towards the end of their music reign.

Here's the original version(after We've Got The Jazz)

Oh, Mos Definitely

I hope I hope I hope I hope I hope! That this will be good.

Doing a Dr. Manhattan

First it was Lupe, now it's Cudi. This suuucks(Read the Post titled, "I am sorry") I do understand where he's coming from though. Its hard being in music, especially, especially, especially in hip hop. Whether you're at where I am or where Cudi is. It can really suck the life out of you. Me and Jerry(Ezra) know this well and that's one of a couple reasons why he doesn't really do hip hop anymore, and why this project with Youngs may be my last endeavour in hip hop. Other ventures just seem more plausible and fun and free. So if this is his first and last, I hope its good. =[

but then again, Jay-Z said the same thing when he made Reasonable Doubt.....

Stay Up!(Viagra)

AT LAAAASST-Etta James. Off the album The Death of Adam by producer/emcee 88 Keys.

MPW: St. Vincent

I was going to pick Francois Virot or Uzi and Ari for this week, but as I was searching for Take Away Shows, for a good video of the two acts, I came across this video of my baby's mother. Haha. JK. BUT! If Annie Clark aka St. Vincent came up to me in a coffee shop and started singing "Marry Me Jae, Marry Me Jae, I'll be soooo good to yoooouuu" I would melt! She wouldn't even have to call me Francis. She could call me whatever! haha. I know everyone's feeling Lykke Li or Beyonce, or who ever female is poppin right now, but this girl is something else to me. She plays like 10 instruments, writes her own music, and she's pretty cute. Oh and I think I mentioned her in a previous blog about albums =]

p.s. I call music pick of the week MPW or MPDUB now haha hehe oh oh...nigga

I Love Being A Skateboarder

AHHH I wanted to post this for so long after I saw it on the Chocolate(Skateboards) site. I think this is the trailer for the Chocolate video coming out, but i'm not sure. Ever since HD cameras were introduced to skate videos when Lakia's Fully Flared came out in '07, the quality of the videos have gone waaay up. The Girl/Chocolate/Lakia companies are the forerunners of making really good skate vids.
Its slow, but enjoyable(thats what she said haha)

Oh and my favorite skater: Devine Calloway(besides Andrew Reynolds)is in this. He's the guys who does a Big Spin off of the ledge.... hope you can catch it.

THROWBACK TRACK:WHOA

Every time I'm at work and I work with my boy Ryan, we're always reminiscing about the songs we used to listen to in elementary and middle school and sometimes high school. And it never fails for Flaco and Steve to start singing super random 90's songs. Just takes you back really. So to add some more comedy to the blog, i'm introducing Throwback Tracks. The first of firsts is WHOA by Black Rob. I'm bout to start saying this shit now haha. The Cookie Monster blog is WHOOOOAAAA
